This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 13.
Four COMMON MERGANSERS were along the West Fork of the San Gabriel River near Highway 39 north of Azusa on September 11.
A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 6.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen on the Palos Verdes Peninsula near Ocean Trails Reserve on September 8.
RED KNOTS continued along the lower LA River near Willow Street in Long Beach and by the Spring Street crossing through September 9. Another was along lower Ballona Creek on September 11.
At Madrona Marsh in Torrance, the immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen through September 12.
An AMERICAN BITTERN, likely a continuing bird, was near the south end of the Dominguez Gap wetlands in Long Beach on September 10. The wetlands are south of the Del Amo crossing on the east side of the river.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD was on San Clemente Island (no public access) on September 6.
An early WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on September 8.
A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH continued in the Sepulveda Basin on September 6. It was by the first bridge over Haskell Creek after you enter the wildlife area from the north. There have been no further reports.
A VIRGINIA’S WARBLER was at Malibu Lagoon on September 10. It was in mulefat along the pathway parallel to Highway 1, east of the picnic tables.
Up to three more VIRGINIA’S WARBLER’S were in the east Antelope Valley near East Ave. G10 through September 11.
A BLACK POLL WARBLER was in Exposition Park in Los Angeles on September 12 in Ficus trees near the southwest corner of the Rose Garden.
