Volunteer Opportunities

The most generous gift to the Los Angeles Audubon Society is your time.

Whether you plan to volunteer every week, or bring a group for a day of service, your help is greatly appreciated. We offer many opportunities for volunteers interested in bringing the community together to appreciate, enjoy, and protect birds and nature. If you don't see something you like, share your skills - we always need people with a diverse set of skills to support our work.

Please read on to learn about some of our current volunteer opportunities.

Nature Tour Volunteer Docent

Seeking volunteers to lead nature walks for school children, to teach them about the natural history and native habitats of our local nature spaces. No experience is necessary, just a love of the outdoors and a willingness to work with children. Naturalist training will be provided.

Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, Playa del Rey

  • Training begins in September

  • Tours occur Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 am-noon

  • Volunteer commitment: 2 tours per month

Endangered Species Monitor

Seeking volunteers to help monitor the shorebirds at Los Angeles County Beaches. In these projects, Los Angeles Audubon works with project biologists and the California Department of Fish & Wildlife. Volunteers receive training and then help monitor the bird colonies. These are great opportunities to learn about beach conservation and urban wildlife, suitable for families, students, and all Angelenos!
