This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 19.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK, four WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and two BLACK SCOTERS were off Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo on November 15.

A SANDHILL CRANE was observed flying over Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on November 16 and five were observed in flight near the Piute Ponds near Lancaster the same day.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through November 15. It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.

Up to fourteen MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were in the Antelope Valley through November 14 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property; please bird from the road only.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was on the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin below the Burbank Blvd. crossing from November 14-18.

A CATTLE EGRET continued along the lower Los Angeles River near PCH through November 12.

Two reports of HARRIS’S HAWKS recently, one in Glendora from November 12-14 and one at Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains from November 18-19 could be naturally occurring birds rather than escapees; particularly in light of others recorded recently elsewhere in southern California.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was in Glendora near Sierra Madre Ave. and Barranca from November 12-13.

A male WILLIAMSON’S SAPSUCKER was at Grand Ave. Park in Monrovia on November 14.

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through November 18.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through November 16 by the southeast lagoon.  A VESPER SPARROW was here on November 16.

A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on November 12.

Late was a HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER at Monte Cristo Campground in the San Gabriel Mountains on November 17.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through November 18. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel.

Another EASTERN PHOEBE was at Echo Park on November 17 by the north end east of the playground area.

A CASSIN’S VIREO was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on November 18.

The japonicus type AMERICAN PIPIT continued at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale through November 14.

 Two CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at Cheviot Hills Park on November 18.

 A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO was near the entrance kiosk at Kenneth Hahn SRA on November 13.

Two more DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCOS were at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on November 14.

The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued by the north shore play are at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 17.

A HARRIS’S SPARROW was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB from November 18-19 and a SWAMP SPARROW was there on November 19.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continued in Glendora through November 15.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach through November 14, at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through November 15 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 18.

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through November 17. The bird was in trees in the river channel near the middle of the riparian strip.

The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through November 18. It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.
