This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for February 11.

 

An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was on the middle breakwater in the Los Angeles Harbor on February 6.

 

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through February 10.  It has recently been between Lincoln and the 90 Freeway, but it does move along the channel.

 

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin (below Burbank Blvd.) through February 9.

 

A second cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera from February 7-9.

 

A SLATY-BACKED GULL was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on February 5 and the same bird was along the Los Angeles River below the Atlantic crossing from February 10-11.

 

A SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER was found offshore above Redondo Canyon west of Redondo Beach on February 6.

 

A MANX SHEARWATER was off the Palos Verdes Peninsula south of Pt. Vicente on February 10.

 

An AMERICAN BITTERN continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through February 6. The location is the small marshy pond near the northeast corner of the lake, east of the now closed old wooden pier.

 

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia (vicinity of Grand Ave. Park and Sawpit Wash) through February 10.

 

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through February 9.

 

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER continued at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve through February 4.  It is usually seen near the north entrance to the wildlife area.

 

The BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER continued at the South Coast Botanic Garden through February 9.  It was most recently seen by the Arizona Crossing, but moves around this area.

 

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at the Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach on February 4.

 

Another TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through February 5. It is usually around the pond.

 

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood from February 9-10 near the north end by Del Amo Blvd.

 

A PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER continued along the lower trail north of Berkshire Creek at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through February 5.

 

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through February 10. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern part of the park down into the river channel.

 

A BELL’S VIREO continued in the desert garden at the Huntington Library & Gardens in San Marino through February 7. A HOODED ORIOLE continued in this area through February 7 as well.

 

The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued in Sailboat Cove at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through February 4.

 

A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO continued near the north shore play area at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through January 31.

 

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continued at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach through February 8 by the parking lot, and at residences in Monrovia through February 5 and in Glendora through February 6.

 

At the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was present through February 8 (south of Monte Verde Park).  A CASSIN’S VIREO continued by Monte Verde Park through February 10.

 

A SCOTT’S ORIOLE continued at a residence in Crystalaire near Llano through February 6.

 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued in and near Bond Park (on the south side of Los Feliz along the Los Angeles River) through February 9.  Others continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through February 6 and at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through February 7.

 

The immature male AMERICAN RESTART continued by the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin through February 10.  It has been reliable by the bridge over Haskell Creek just above its confluence with the LA River.

 

A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER continued in Long Beach by S. Hart Place and East Seaside Way (usually in a ficus tree) through February 6.

 

The PAINTED REDSTART at Inglewood Park Cemetery continued through February 6. It is usually in the lone large oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

 

An adult male SUMMER TANAGER continued at Legg Lake in South El Monte through February 9.  It has been east of Restroom 4 on the south side of the south lake.

 

Another SUMMER TANAGER continued at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles through February 6.  It was by the northwest part of the large central lawn area.

 

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was in Pasadena on February 9.
