Rare Bird Alert - April 22, 2022

Red Phalarope | Franklin’s Gull | Lesser Black-backed Gull | Neotropic Cormorant | Reddish Egret | Purple Martin | Clay-colored Sparrow | White-throated Sparrow | Black-and-white Warbler | Palm Warbler | Summer Tanager


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 22.

A RED PHALAROPE was along lower Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey on April 14 near the Pacific Ave. bridge.

Eight FRANKLIN’S GULLS were over Claremont and then seen later at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on April 22, and another ten were seen over Pomona the same day.

Two LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were along the Los Angeles River between the Slauson and Atlantic crossings in Maywood on April 16.

Another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued on the wildlife lake island at the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys also through April 22.

A REDDISH EGRET was at Malibu Lagoon on April 13.

A PURPLE MARTIN was at Bear Divide near Santa Clarita on April 15.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Rynerson Park in Lakewood on April 14.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continued in Rolling Hills through April 17 and in Claremont through April 19.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at De Forest Park in Long Beach (north of the park buildings) through April 19.

A PALM WARBLER was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on April 22.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles through April 17.
