Rare Bird Alert - April 29, 2022

This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 29.

 

A late GREATER SCAUP was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through April 26.

 

A BLACK SWIFT was at Apollo Park near Lancaster on April 28.  A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Apollo Park on April 29 along the north edge of the parking lot, just east of the park admin. buildings.

 

Up to three NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through April 28.  Check along the north shore area and also Sailboat Cove.

 

Two NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued on the wildlife lake island at the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys through April 28 as did one at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through April 28.

 

A CATTLE EGRET was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on April 23.

 

Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach from April 23-24 and two more were at Ballona Lagoon outlet (at the confluence with Ballona Creek) in Marina del Rey from April 24-29.

 

A continuing ZONE-TAILED HAWK was seen over Monrovia through April 28.

 

The LEAST FLYCATCHER at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood continued through April 24.  It is at the far north end south of Del Amo Blvd.  Look for it by the small bridge along the pathway on the west side of the river channel.

 

A PURPLE MARTIN was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on April 24.

 

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continued in Rolling Hills through April 25 and in Claremont through April 23. 

 

Another WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was at Rancho Sierra Golf Course in the east Antelope Valley (adjacent to the parking area) on April 29.  This is private property.  Be sure to ask permission at the Club House before birding the perimeter only.

 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through April 26.  It has been in the willows in the southwest part of the property.

 

A NORTHERN PARULA was on San Clemente Island on April 24.

 

A PALM WARBLER was at Alondra Park Reservoir on April 25.

 

Two PALM WARBLERS were at O’Melveny Park in Granada Hills (in the grassy area just up the road from the parking area) on April 25.
