This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for May 27.

Five BLACK SWIFTS were above Claremont Wilderness Park on May 25.  They were seen from the usual spot, the bench on Cobal Canyon Trail.  Late afternoon and early evening is the time to look for them here.

A CHIMNEY SWIFT was at Pt. Dume in Malibu on May 24.

A second cycle SLATY-BACKED GULL was at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles through May 22.  Also present was a GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL through May 21.

A HORNED PUFFIN was present offshore a few miles west of the Palos Verdes Peninsula on May 21.  A TUFTED PUFFIN was observed here on May 22.  A MANX SHEARWATER was reported there on May 21 and eleven CRAVERI’S MURRELETS were there on May 25.

NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at Peck Road Water Conservation Park on May 21, at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve through May 22 and at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (up to three birds) through May 26.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the Jack Dunster Marine Reserve in Long Beach on May 23 and another was observed in flight nearby on May 26.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was on San Clemente Island from May 22-23.  An EASTERN KINGBIRD was found there on May 25.

The male HOODED WARBLER along the Playa Vista Riparian Corridor was present through May 22.  It has been adjacent to the soccer fields and dog park and quite vocal.

A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on May 24 in sycamores southeast of the pond.

A SUMMER TANAGER was in west Palmdale along West Ave. O4 on May 23.

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on May 22.  Another was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (around the large square parking lot on the north side) on May 23. 

Another ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach from May 23-26 with a second individual found there on May 26.  Both were seen in the vicinity of the pond.
