Rare Bird Alert - June 14, 2024

BIRDS MENTIONED…

Red-breasted Merganser | Inca Dove | White-winged Dove | Herring Gull | Little Blue Heron | Yellow-crowned Night-Heron | YELLOW-HEADED CARACARA | EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE | ALDER FLYCATCHER | American Redstart | Northern Parula | Summer Tanager | Rose-breasted Grosbeak


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for June 14, 2024.

A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from June 10-12.

A few INCA DOVES continued in the town of Lake Los Angeles in the east Antelope Valley through June 10.  The most recent report placed them by 16623 Sweetaire Ave.

WHITE-WINGED DOVES were in Agoura Hills on June 13 and near Littlerock on June 12.

HERRING GULLS were at Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach on June 7 and along the Los Angeles River at Downey Road in Vernon on June 10.

A LITTLE BLUE HERON was at Del Rey Lagoon and on the Ballona Salt Pan in Playa del Rey from June 9-13.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach on June 12.

The continuing YELLOW-HEADED CARACARA in Lomita (provenance unknown) was reported through June 11.  It has been near the Halal Market, Popeyes Chicken and Target parking lot at Narbonne Ave. and PCH.

An EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE was at Dominguez Park in Redondo Beach from June 9-11.  A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was present there from June 10-14.

An ALDER FLYCATCHER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for access) from June 12-13.  A NORTHERN PARULA was by the gazebo on June 12.

An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Central Park in Playa Vista on June 8 and another was in DeForest Park (in the wetlands area) in Long Beach also on June 8.

SUMMER TANAGERS were at Kenneth Hahn Park on June 7, at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach on June 9, at Space Park in Redondo Beach on June 9 and along Highway 39 at the West Fork of the San Gabriel River also on June 9.
