This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 29, 2024.

An INCA DOVE continued along the Los Angeles River in Elysian Valley through November 24.  Google Earth coordinates 34.0964, -118.2412. 

Two COMMON GROUND DOVES were at Hansen Dam in Lakeview Terrace from November 25-27 on the southeast side of the fishing lake.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued in the Ballona area in Playa del Rey through November 27.  It associates with Black-bellied Plovers either along the creek above Pacific Ave. or on the adjacent salt pa

The VEGA GULL along the Los Angeles River in Vernon was seen through November 26.  It has been seen at the 26th Street crossing.  Park on the west side of the river.  The bird has often been seen just upstream from the bridge.

Up to three LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 23 and one continued along the Los Angeles River at Soto Street through November 27.

A LEAST BITTERN was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on November 25.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at Elizabeth Lake on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains on November 23.

The DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel continued through November 24.  It has been at the east end of the park.

Up to two TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued along the Los Angeles River at the Willow Street crossing in Long Beach through November 27.  Another continued at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through November 25.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD in Griffith Park was seen through November 27.  Google Maps coordinates 34.1407, -118.2885.

A late WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on November 26.

A WESTERN FLYCATCHER was at Creek Park in La Mirada on November 27.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills was seen through November 22 near the spillway.

CASSIN’S VIREOS were at Birdcage Park in Long Beach on November 22, at Marchant Park in San Dimas on November 24 and at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on November 28.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was on Santa Catalina Island on November 25.

A SAGEBRUSH SPARROW continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through November 25.

The DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas continued at Sailboat Cove through November 27.

This past week, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were at Descanso Gardens in La Canada, at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood, on San Clemente Island, in Claremont and at Wilson Canyon Park.

A SWAMP SPARROW was at Zuma Creek mouth in Malibu on November 24.

HOODED ORIOLES were at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino on November 22 and in West Los Angeles on November 23.

An adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at the Kenneth Hahn SRA on November 27 by the Japanese Garden.

A SCOTT’S ORIOLE was in Llano from November 19-24.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER and a SUMMER TANAGER were at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on November 24.

Other BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were in Santa Monica on November 26, at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 26 and continuing at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through November 28.

The CAPE MAY WARBLER at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester was seen through November 23.  Google Maps coordinates are 33.9688, -118.41680

The PAINTED REDSTART at San Dimas Canyon Park was seen by the restrooms near the entrance through November 26.

An adult male SUMMER TANAGER continued in the Old Zoo area of Griffith Park through November 27.

A late BLUE GROSBEAK continued along the Los Angeles River in Elysian Valley through November 23.
